The Problem
Sentry Security Health Services (SSHS) was born out of necessity as a solution to a growing challenge in healthcare settings. Hospitals and care facilities were increasingly faced with gaps in support services, needing professionals who could provide both exceptional patient care and a secure environment, without the complications of coordinating multiple service providers.
The founders of Sentry Security – Ian Townsend, Terry MacDonald, and Peter Smits – recognized a pressing need through their years of security experience. Working closely with healthcare providers, they witnessed the strain placed on hospital staff when managing patients requiring both heightened supervision and compassionate support.
Security teams were often called in to address escalating situations, but delays and a lack of integration with patient care systems created inefficiencies that impacted both staff and patients.
The Solution
Sentry Security Health Services was thus created to specialize in patient sitter services, long-term care assistance, and integrated support for healthcare staff.
Recognizing the growing need for a more comprehensive approach to patient care and safety, the founders developed an innovative dual-role model—training staff in both de-escalation techniques and patient assistance. This approach ensured a seamless blend of security and compassionate care, addressing gaps that healthcare providers often struggle to fill.
