Patient Sitters
SSHS patient sitters are more than just caregivers—they are trained professionals who provide essential support to patients while ensuring their safety.
Our patient sitters provide essential assistance with feeding, mobility, companionship, and redirection for individuals in long-term care or hospital settings.

Sitting with high-risk patients requires vigilance and precision. Our staff use proprietary behavioral observation tools to monitor, document, and respond to patient behavior in real-time. This proactive approach helps reduce risks while providing valuable insights to healthcare providers.
IPTA Transfer Program
(Partnership with Cape Breton Regional Police & Nova Scotia Health Authority)
Sentry Security, in partnership with the Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP) and the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA), developed an innovative and highly effective model to support police resources and improve patient handling under the Involuntary Patient Treatment Act (IPTA).
Under the IPTA, police are required to transport individuals to a healthcare facility and remain on-site until the person is assessed by a psychiatric professional—a process that can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. This obligation significantly reduces available police resources for community patrol and emergency response.
Sentry Security approached CBRP with a solution to assume on-site security responsibilities once the individual arrived at the facility. Through accelerated, specialized training, Sentry staff are equipped to manage patient safety, monitor behavior, and support healthcare personnel while the individual awaits assessment.
This model has been in place for over two years and has proven highly successful, freeing substantial police resources for frontline duties while maintaining a safe and controlled healthcare environment.
Scrub Uniforms
The scrub-style uniform was developed by the Sentry Security team to bridge the gap between traditional authoritative security attire and the needs of sensitive healthcare environments. This design was created to help reduce risk and enhance safety when providing security services to mental health patients and individuals with dementia within hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Traditional security uniforms can trigger anxiety or agitation—particularly among dementia patients. Recognizing this, Sentry Security identified the need for a uniform that would promote calm, support de-escalation, and reduce the perception of authority that may escalate situations. The scrub uniform offers a softer, care-oriented appearance while maintaining full functionality for security operations.
Developed in collaboration with Nova Scotia Health and introduced in 2023, this uniform design has since become widely requested across most Nova Scotia Health facilities. It reflects Sentry Security’s proactive approach to modern, patient-centered security services.
